Outcome
Enhanced safety and efficiency of ground handlers
This enables teams and individuals to focus on the task at hand, rather than being distracted by having to lower audio volume or change feedback suppression settings manually as they move between environments.

Challenge
Ground handlers' safety - an ongoing concern
The apron is a noisy hazardous environment where various below-wing services and operations occur concurrently; it is where the majority of ground workers' accidents happen.
Solution
AI-Trained noise suppression
Clarity of voice communication is critical. Noise reduction technology, trained through Artificial Intelligence (AI) machine-learning, is integrated into the radio devices to suppress loud background noise and improve the clarity of calls — so workers on the apron and taxiway, for example, can hear and be heard clearly. Ground operation workers often work in teams. Using multiple radios in close proximity to one another can sometimes cause acoustic feedback such as howling and distortion, which compromises radio communications. The AI-trained noise suppression automatically adjusts the audio profile of the receiving radio to minimise the impact of acoustic feedback.

Challenge
Safeguarding staff
Airport staff are sometimes the target of aggression or unfounded complaints from passengers and members of the public. This ranges from verbal intimidation, abuse and threats to physical assault.
Solution
Capturing the incident as video evidence
Body-worn cameras serve as a visible deterrent to members of the public, while capturing video footage that can be used for evidential purposes.

Challenge
Preventing unauthorized access
Airports have a lots of sensitive areas, which are strictly off-limits to unauthorised workers and the general public; some breaches could cause a major airport lockdown.
Solution
Unauthorised movement recognised and apperance tracked in terminal
The camera detects movement in an unauthorised area and sends alert to security. The intruder’s appearance is captured and automatically tracked across multiple areas and cameras.

Challenge
Strengthen parking lot security
Driving at breakneck speed, an individual drives in through the parking lot at night and breaks parking gate arm.
Solution
Vehicle identified, triggering alert to security
License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera captures license plate information on vehicles going up to 100 km/h in poor light conditions. Using an existing database LPR analytics recognises the vehicle as a blacklisted one. Security automatically monitors the intruder’s movements over multiple cameras.

Challenge
Lost or disoriented individual
Locating lost children or missing persons in crowded areas can be challenging due to the unpredictability of their movements and the high volume of other passengers at the airport. Prompt identification and assistance is essential to prevent escalations and ensure their safety.
Solution
Face match to recognise missing person and activate appearance tracking
AI-powered video analytics scrutinises hours of video footage, enabling rapid location of specific persons of interest matching a defined physical description or uploaded photo. If known, photo of missing child can be uploaded, with facial recognition allowing creation of alerts to notify nearby security staff.

Challenge
The rising threat of UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems)
Drones and other unmanned aerial systems can disrupt flight schedules, ground operations and damage airports.
Solution
Monitoring large airspace to verify drone incursion
Integrate Silent Sentinel camera systems with top-tier thermal cameras into third-party radar or RF-based detection setups to detect UASs accurately and swiftly across short and long ranges. The airport can further verify drone incursions via Silent Sentinel bi-spectral camera systems, using advanced AI for precise auto-classification, distinguishing drone targets from other airborne objects like aircraft and birds.

Challenge
Protection of vast perimeters
Airport perimeters often stretch for several kilometres, bordering busy highways or shipping channels and are the most remote areas of the airport, usually with compromised visibility due to poor lighting.
Solution
Large areas monitored by less cameras
HD wide-lens fixed, PTZ and panoramic cameras and ultra long range EO systems allow airports to monitor more with less: a camera recognises an individual scaling a fence to an airfield and alerts security teams. Situational awareness is maintained as the intruder's appearance is automatically tracked across multiple cameras on the airfield.

Challenge
Extending communications beyond airport confines
Airports have many stakeholders. Connected push-to-talk (PTT) communications have traditionally only been available on-site at airports and the team involved is not able to communicate effectively in the moments that matter.
Solution
Real-time collaboration with off-site team and third-party service providers
Extend connectivity with operators outside the airports via integrating mission-critical TETRA, P25 or DMR networks via WAVE PTX broadband PTT service which operates across networks and devices in flexible talk groups. WAVE PTX also offers multimedia collaboration for improved situational awareness.

Outcome
Incident analysed and shared
Airport staff can work in greater safety with reduced risk of verbal and physical assaults. Video and audio footage used for evidential purposes contributes to securing prosecution of offenders and successful resolution of incidents.

Outcome
Offender apprehended and loss mitigated
Security personnel are notified and dispatched with an image and the location of the intruder. Field security intercepts the individual before reaching the terminal entrance. An incident is logged with pre-populated fields and relevant data. As LPR integrates with access control and parking management systems, it proves valuable in several instances of identifying individuals responsible for both parking fee avoidance and the damage they caused, helping mitigate revenue loss.

Outcome
Airport operators can respond rapidly
In the event of unauthorised individuals attempting to enter restricted areas, reducing the risk of theft, illegal movement of goods, vandalism and attacks. After the initial radio alert, the intruder's image and location are sent to nearby security teams in the field. The security incident is logged with pre-populated fields and relevant data, allowing for further training & analysis.

Outcome
Threat level assessed and mitigated
Silent Sentinel camera systems use video trackers to monitor drones in protected airspace, allowing security personnel to assess threat levels early. It integrates with various mitigation technologies like laser dazzlers, long-range illuminators and third-party jammers to counter potential threats.

My department needs to monitor all the
operational aspects of the airport from one
remote point. That wasn’t possible with our
previous system, but we now have access to every
relevant camera. Even more importantly, utilising Radio
Alert, my operatives receive every relevant alert directly onto
their radios, which has a direct impact on the smooth operation of the airport.
