PT CSS proposed the MOTOTRBO XiR M3688 to meet the customer’s need for a rugged, reliable mobile radio (with an alphanumeric display) designed for drivers to connect without distraction.
PT CSS proposed the hardy MOTOTRBO XiR C2660 at the mining site, which is designed to perform mission- critical communications even in harsh conditions like dusty and wet environments.
What makes PT CSS stand out from their competition is its competence in helping customers optimize solutions. For example, to help one of their customers stay agile in their communications network, they implemented the MOTOTRBO XiR C2660, which can operate in analog and digital modes, making it easy and affordable to migrate to a digital two-way radio platform when ready.
Besides providing implementation and installation of services, PT CSS also conducts training on using the MOTOTRBO solution correctly, safely, and effectively, maximising communication.
Growing demand in coal production
The mining customer was impressed with the audio clarity and reliability of the MOTOTRBO XiR M3688 and MOTOTRBO XiR C2660 solution, which addressed all the problems before the solution was deployed.

According to Mordor Intelligence1, the Indonesian coal market is expected to have a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of more than 6% in the next five years (2023-2028), driven by increasing electricity demand and supportive government policies.
With large coal reserves, Indonesia is ASEAN’s top exporter of coal2 used in power plants. In 2022, Indonesia generated US$46.7 billion3 in export income by producing 687 million tonnes4 and exporting about 465 million tonnes5 of coal.
Domestically, about 62 percent6 electricity is produced using coal, powering up many of Indonesia’s homes, offices and factories. With this huge dependency on coal production, Indonesia’s coal production sites require robust operational efficiency and a reliable network of communication technologies to minimise downtime while maintaining safety standards

Indonesia Business Post reports that Indonesia is the third-largest coal producer globally, employing about 160,000 coal miners. 40 percent of these coal miners work in East Kalimantan, where mining activities are the most extensive.
PT Century Sinergy Solusindo (PT CSS), a Platinum Partner of Motorola Solutions, has witnessed the expansion of mining activities in East Kalimantan, having served Indonesia’s mining, oil and gas industries for over 20 years.
Benny Kongtesa, CEO of PT CSS, observed that mining companies are pressured to look for ways to improve their efficiency and productivity as demands for coal production increase. However, miners face communication challenges because of the geographic terrain. Many of their existing radio systems had weak, unstable, unreliable audio signals operating on disparate networks.
Mr. Benny recounted how one of their mining customers faced communication obstacles with their earlier radio
network, which could only transmit clear signals at about 7-8 km. This was a huge problem as their teams needed to connect from the mining site to the port, spanning a distance of about 46 km. Adding to their frustration were the hilly contours that blocked radio signals, significantly affecting critical communication.
With years of radio communications expertise, PT CSS skillfully identified the unique needs of the mining customer and delivered a robust and reliable MOTOTRBO solution. To solve the problem of unstable coverage, PT CSS installed several repeaters to increase the signal coverage between the site and port areas across the remote and hilly terrain.
Mr. Benny said, “Employees now experience clear voice connections and the convenience of sending alerts to notify them when an emergency occurs. Teams from the mining site or the loading port could instantly connect because of MOTOTRBO’s robust, reliable and clear network coverage. Whether delivering cargo or monitoring the site, staying connected with their employees was easy. The MOTOTRBO solution empowered teams to communicate and coordinate for maximum safety and productivity.”
Supporting Growth Opportunities with Reliable Communications Network
PT CSS’s expertise in identifying and deploying the right communications solutions for their mining customers has resulted in an investment in future applications. For example, having experienced a successful deployment of the MOTOTRBO solutions, the satisfied mining customer is exploring ways to integrate the MOTOTRBO solution with PELCO cameras to support video surveillance in several critical spots in their site and loading areas.
Mr. Benny said, “The MOTOTRBO solution has increased the loading volume in the port by 30% and minimized the latency time from site to port by 50%.”
PT CSS reported that the satisfied mining customer is now managing the shipment operations of their truck fleet between site and port areas more efficiently than before. The repeater solution installed earlier enabled fleet supervisors to send support technicians whenever there were issues. Managing operational efficiency and maintaining timely shipment schedules are now a reality, thanks to the reliable MOTOTRBO solution.
With strong radio network coverage from the MOTOTRBO solution, PT CSS observed how office drivers, workers, and staff could communicate in real-time, providing instant status updates and collaborating across all departments to achieve their tasks quickly.
Deploying robust and seamless communications solutions promptly requires the expertise of a reliable technology partner with a deep understanding of industry standards and the unique requirements of their customers. For over 20 years, PT CSS has equipped mining, oil and gas industries with communications solutions to operate safely and efficiently.
